Is pupa worth watching? ›

Pupa is an anime series that dives headfirst into disturbing and grotesque content without any semblance of narrative coherence or meaningful storytelling. It is a prime example of shock value gone horribly wrong, leaving viewers disgusted and questioning the purpose of such a repulsive and poorly executed anime.

Each episode is exactly four minutes long, and was simulcast by Crunchyroll.

Story. The "life-and-death sibling" story follows Utsutsu and Yume Hasegawa a boy and his little sister who find themselves all alone. One day, Yume sees a mysterious red butterfly and her body undergoes a strange metamorphosis—into a creature that eats humans. Utsutsu struggles to find a way to restore his sister.

Realizing that Yuu is dead, Utsutsu decides to help Yume emerge by offering his body to her. Accepting their fate, they proceed to devour each other as they happily embrace for one last time and both melt into a cloud of red butterflies, completing their emerging.

Alex Smoot delivers an impressive film with powerful moments of suspense, character interactions, and cinematography. Overall, I highly recommend "Metamorphosis."
