What is a passing grade at San Jacinto College? ›

The College has established 2.0 as the minimum GPA requirement for a student to remain in good academic standing. Students may refer to the Academic Status section for more information.

It is a mid-size institution with an enrollment of 9,309 undergraduate students. The San Jacinto acceptance rate is 100%. Popular majors include Liberal Arts and Humanities, Business, and Natural Sciences.

The total maximum credit hours is 18 hours for the Full term and/or the combination of parts of term unless completed a mini semester course. Students are limited to the number of credit hours they may take during the Summer term based on the total number of calendar weeks. The maximum number of calendar weeks is 13.

You'll usually need to receive a letter grade between A and D to pass a class, often the numerical equivalent of 65 percent or higher. Receiving an F—which stands for “fail”—indicates that you did not pass the class. The cutoff to receive an F is usually 64 percent.

A letter grade of a D is technically considered passing because it not a failure. A D is any percentage between 60-69%, whereas a failure occurs below 60%. Even though a D is a passing grade, it's barely passing.

Students are expected to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 based upon the total number of hours attempted at San Jacinto College. Students are expected to pass a minimum of 75 percent of all hours attempted at San Jacinto College.

Good academic standing is an overall GPA of 2.0 or greater.

The calculation includes all classes taken at San Jacinto College, including college preparatory courses. If you have taken a course more than once, only the highest grade is counted.

San Jacinto College is a commuter college, so dormitories are not located on College campuses. A variety of apartments are located within close proximity to the College campuses.

A good college GPA typically falls within the range of 3.5 to 4.0 on a 4.0 scale. However, what's considered “good” can vary depending on your goals and the competitiveness of your field.

In fall 2023, we counted 31,494 students across all five of our campuses. When asked what their goal was in attending San Jac, three categories stood out. attending San Jac to earn an associate degree.

60 is right on the borderline and for some schools it is failing. Some colleges require a 70 percent or a 65 percent though some schools work on a ten point letter grade scale meaning a D would be 60–69; a C 70–79, a B 80–89 and an A above 90.

At most schools, a D is the lowest passing grade. That means students who earn a D or higher receive credit for the course. However, some schools set special policies around D grades. For example, at Lehigh, a D counts as a passing grade but does not meet prerequisite requirements.

The pass/fail option lets college students receive credit for a class without a low grade negatively affecting their GPA. For example, STEM majors can take humanities electives pass/fail without a B-minus on a research paper bringing down their GPA.

However, there are some schools that consider a C the lowest passing grade, so the general standard is that anything below a 60% or 70% is failing, depending on the grading scale.
