Ilse has an intellectual disability and finds it difficult to make her own decisions regarding care and welfare. As a mentor, Renske is Ilse's legal representative and confidant. She helps her make choices such as whether or not to vaccinate or operate. Renske also ensures that agreements made are fulfilled through consultation with Ilse's care providers. She visits her regularly and then they take a walk or play a game. For Ilse, mentorship means maintaining self-direction. Renske finds the mentorship an enrichment of her life.Renske is one of the 370 voluntary mentors of Stichting Mentorschap Noordwest en Midden. Our Foundation offers mentorship to adults with an intellectual or psychiatric disability, dementia or acquired brain injury.
